Heroics
The Newsletter of the Eastern Pennsylvania Gaming Society
April 2010

Thanks to everyone who helped keep track of the games played at the April 3rd meeting. For what it's worth, I had 5 wins and 2 losses at the chess tournament, which was good enough to win a modest share of the prize.

Not much else to report (besides the items below). I'm a huge Flyers fan, so I'm reveling in the fact that they managed to make it to the second round of the playoffs, unlike the President's Trophy winning Washington Capitals. Bring on the Bruins!

That's all for now. Game on!

Mike Kaltman Wins (Age of) Steam Tournament
Steam There were only five entrants for the tournament, and as such these participants enjoyed an automatic trip to the final board. After all was said and done, Mike Kaltman took first with a score of 35. The final used a hybrid of the Steam and Age of Steam rules which seemed to work very well. Congrats Mike!

Comic Con Wants You! (To Help Explain Gaming)
As annouced at the April 17th meeting, the annual Philadelphia Comic Con convention is looking for volunteers to help explain game rules and run games at the 2010 convention taking place June 12-14. Volunteers would be permitted to attend the basic convention for free; there are special events at the con that cost extra. For more information, click on the Comic Con link to the right.

The Games We Played - April 2010
Power Grid - Factory Manager This month's top played game was Power Grid - Factory Manager which was played a total of seven times in April. This game appears to be very different from the original Power Grid and also plays much quicker, which would help explain why it gets so many plays! In second place was last month's top played game Tichu with six plays.

Also notable was the playtesting of a game designed by Mike Nagel with the self-descriptive title XLI - Ancient Combat at Sea. His opponent was Dave Bohnenberger, who gave it the ultimate seal of approval when he announced, "this game sucks."
