Heroics
The Newsletter of the Eastern Pennsylvania Gaming Society
August 2009

WBC came and went, and EPGS came, saw, and conquered (see below).  I can only hope my write-up did all of our club members justice...

As promised, I have made an effort to expand the Upcoming Events section of the newsletter.  Included are a few gaming events coming up in the next few months.  If I left something out, please let me know!

Since this newsletter is already a few days late (sorry!), I will keep this intro short.  To paraphrase a former hockey announcer, "Good night, good summer, good gaming!"

EPGS Makes an Impressive Showing at WBC
The World Boardgaming Championships took place in Lancaster, PA earlier this month.  To say our club did well would be an understatement. Three club members won two events each, and there were at least four events where two EPGS members were at the final table.  For a complete listing of club member accomplishments and links to member reports, click here.

The Games We Played - August 2009
Dominion Dominion dominated the August meetings.  The Original Dominion and the Intrigue expansion were played a total of 11 times at EPGS gatherings.  With seven plays, Tichu edged out two other games to come in second.

A few new games appeared at the meetings this month.  Snow Tails and Steam were played once at the August 15th meeting.  However, the most popular new game was Ra - The Dice Game which was played a total of six times at various events throughout the month.  As this game plays fairly quick, it may become the hot new "filler" game.

Carl Brubaker Wins Ticket To Ride Tournament
Ticket To Ride Ten players took place in the long awaited Ticket To Ride tourney and after two rounds of intense competition Carl Brubaker emerged as the victor.  Some of the more unusual aspects of the tourney were a player losing 72 points for not being able to complete any of his routes and a tie for second in the first round that needed to be resolved as only one of these players would qualify for the final round.  Click here for the full tourney report.
