Heroics
The Newsletter of the Eastern Pennsylvania Gaming Society
September 2009

September was a quiet month, at least in terms of board gaming.  As such, I really don't have must to say.

I do have one quick note: Days of Wonder has designated that the Ticket To Ride tournament at EuroQuest (see right) will be a qualifier for the Ticket To Ride world championship.  This is particularily significant to EPGS as Donna Davis, one of our club members, is the defending EuroQuest Ticket To Ride champion.  Anyone interested in learning more about the world championship can click here.

Good Gaming!

Copy of Bob Stribula's Martian Rails to be raffled off
Martian Rails Bob explains it best in an article he submitted to the newsletter:

As many of you know, Martian Rails was released at the World Boardgaming Championships in August 2009.  Larry Roznai, President of Mayfair Games, brought eight copies of Martian Rails to WBC.  He gave me four copies to distribute to my play testers.  The other copies sold at their booth within an hour of its opening.  I gave the four copies to people who helped test the game and that I only see at WBC.  Some of you have asked, “How do you decide who gets a copy?”  The answer is that every time we played Martian Rails, I recorded it in my design notebook.  I noted who played, plus their comments, suggestions, and criticisms.  I kept track of all this during the nearly four years of Martian Rails’ development.  Prior to WBC, I prioritized the list of gamers who played and contributed the most.  That’s how I decided which people would receive the games at WBC.  Recently, I received the balance of my author copies.  I have been awarding these copies.  Fortunately, many people played and helped improve the game.  Unfortunately, I only have a limited number of games to distribute.  I wish I could give a copy to everyone who played.  Since that’s not feasible and to be fair, I will donate the last copy to EPGS for the club raffle.  Good luck in winning this copy and thank you to everyone who contributed their time and effort to help get Martian Rails published!  This game, and others, wouldn’t exist without the help of many benevolent play testers.

At this time, it is not known at what meeting we will raffle Martian Rails, so stay tuned for future updates.  Thanks to Bob for both his generous donation and for creating new games!
