Regional Gaming Convention Announcement
GMT EAST 2003 April 25-27 (Friday - Sunday) White Plains, NY
Note: The co-editors of Heroics will be attending this Con. If you are
interested or have further questions, please talk to Bob Sohn or Dave
Bohnenberger. If you need a ride, we will be driving up on Friday morning
and
returning on Sunday evening.
Location: White Plains Crowne Plaza (30 minutes north of Manhattan, NY).
White Plains is located within 2.5 hours driving time from Philadelphia.
Con Size: slots for first 100 Pre-registered Guests.
Price: $40 for all 3 days/$20 a day otherwise.
To pre-register, simply send an e-mail (more detailed information can be
found
at the www.consimworld.com Discussion Board - GMT EAST 2003 folder or read
what
happened at the 2002 GMT East) to arothber@optonline.net with subject line
of
GMT East 2003 Pre-registration, or mail to Allan Rothberg, 745-19 Conklin
Street, Farmingdale, NY 11735-3770 (with attention line GMT East 2003).
Include in the e-mail or snail-mail the following info: your name, e-mail
address, mailing address, dates attending (if arriving before convention -
please note this), method of payment (charge, check, etc. BUT do NOT send
money
or credit card info at this time to Allan; GMT will contact pre- registrants
in
February to bill directly), desire/offer for ride share and room share
(smoking or non-smoking preferences), gaming preferences (volunteer in any
capacity) and anything
else that you want Allan to know.
What to Expect: 3 days of intense gaming and socializing with any and all
games in the large library of games published by GMT. If enough interest is
generated in a game, GMT East will run a tournament, otherwise Open Gaming
is
the rule. Games in development will be displayed and played. Meet some of
GMT's staff (e.g., Andy Lewis) and designers (e.g., Ted Raicer) and
developers
that work for GMT. If you give Andy Lewis sufficient notice and lead time
(alewis161@mchsi.com), Andy may be able to bring some GMT games for sale.
Where to stay: the MOST convenient place to stay is where the convention is
being held; White Plains Crowne Plaza (call Toll-Free: 800-752-4672). A
block
of rooms have been reserved for this event for April 24-26 (Thursday -
Sunday
checkout), ask for "GMT East" group rate or ask for a "non-cancel" rate
which
implies it's own restrictions but is even cheaper than the block rate.
Other
locations exist within the area, it is best to use an online search to find
a
location that fits your needs.
Hotel Parking: White Plains Crowne Plaza provides free (covered) parking in
it's own parking garage. Hotel Amenities/Area Amenities: a beautiful 4
Star
Hotel, which features a restaurant, cocktail lounge, pool, complimentary
shuttle, and much more. Located in the heart of Westchester county,
adjacent
to The Westchester, a world-class Shopping Mall with Nordstrom and Neiman
Marcus as its anchor and 150 specialty stores, the Crowne Plaza White Plains
is
the perfect place for all guests. In addition, guests can enjoy 50 plus
restaurants within a walking distance or a short ride away. Also enjoy a
complimentary shuttle to the Westchester Airport, White Plains train
station,
shopping malls and office complexes within 7 miles of hotel.

Reports from the Front
Rogues'(Fwd Deployed Detachment) reporting in here. The last week of
December and the first week of January found MAJ Greg Markert and I playing
Beer and Pretzel Ironclads (1/600th scale ACW). Both games consisted of a
Confederate squadron soundly defeated by a Union one. The second game was
poor scenario design on my part. 15mm Mexican American War is on the books
for this Saturday night with an alternate event of more Ironclads. (Ordering
online has allowed the Confederate squadon to be greatly re-enforced) While
our day jobs tend to get in the way of painting and pushing lead, let it be
known that we have at least one recruit for when we get back, with three
more potentials. All my best to those back home.

Another update from the wilds of Bosnia, where 1:1 modern skirmish gaming is
not just a job..... Well, Greg Markert and I seem to be getting in 1/600th
ACW Ironclads every Sunday. Games go quick and we've managed to get our S4,
Captain Dave Milne, to "push lead, roll dice". Support from Home continues
to be OUTSTANDING, with Michael Panzer and other Rogues keeping us supplied
with various sweets, Wawa coffee, and gaming supplies. I'm building some
"odds and ends" diorama type stuff for some guys. As our rotation draws to a
close, we hope, still no luck in getting "BosCon" off the ground. It seems
to be a case of the real world getting in the way. On the plus side, it
means soon this will all be a bad memory and a source of gaming scenarios
for club meetings. Back to work, will write more later.
